#HealThySelf Challenge – Day 3
STOP THE BLEEDING
“If you never heal from what hurt you, you’ll bleed on people who didn’t cut you.” is a quote that I stumbled upon in a social media newsreel one day that completely rocked my world! Healing from pains caused by emotional and spiritual traumas is necessary not solely for your wholeness, but for your effectiveness in impacting those around you. To engage in active healing means that you will not accidentally pass on your hurt to people that do not deserve it.
Step Three: STOP IT!
This step is the selfless component to your healing. In this step you purposely do the work to heal so that you do not pass unasked for pain to those you love. If you think hard enough, you will uncover moments when you unfairly have gone off on someone or placed barriers they didn’t deserve on them. Making them pay for sins others did to you. The bottom line is that YOU CANNOT BYPASS TRUE HEALING; BECAUSE IF YOU DON’T HEAL THEN YOU WILL PASS ON MORE PAIN! Your wounds in life bleed and every day that you wait to pay attention to it with the mindset to stop the bleeding, you inadvertently do to others what was done to you.
Look at it this way… one time I was outside playing with the neighborhood kids getting sprayed by a water hose on a hot summer’s day. We were in the grass running and laughing having a good time. During one of the breaks from the water, I joined the others on the sidewalk in great spirits and soaking wet when I looked down and saw redness all around me on the ground. I couldn’t understand it as I felt great and was in no pain at all. We sprayed my foot with some water from the hose and moved on, but the bleeding was incessant. It was literally pouring out of my foot and would not stop. Blood was getting everywhere. Adults took me to the ER to stop the bleeding, but I left a trail of bright red blood every where I went. I remember seeing a long line of blood in the hospital hall. When they finally got me on an operating table to stitch me up, it was then and only that I actually even felt any pain. The point is that this real-life episode of being accidentally cut by a rusty, open Pepsi can never physically caused me pain, but it definitely caused bleeding. The bleeding affected everyone everywhere I went. Eventually, if it did not stop I would have bled to death. The bottom line is that it is necessary to stop the bleeding to achieve healing. Your wounds can cause others to suffer when you don’t. Am I making sense?
So, on the third day’s journey to #HealThySelf, your CHALLENGE is to:
– STOP the bleeding in THE WOUNDED PLACES of your life. Actively make a decision to immediately handle the things that have wounded you. Your ability to stop the bleeding in your own life is extremely beneficial to yourself AND to those around you.
#HealThySelf Prayer for the Cut Open
God, I may not realize what the wounds in my life are actually doing to others. I want to be like You, Jesus, and bring people hope and not pain. Help me to stop the bleeding in my life. Reveal to me what I cannot feel. Though it may not be on purpose, I do not want to make the people that I love suffer simply because I have injuries in my life. Heal me. Stop the bleeding. Strengthen those around me to forgive me as well. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
